The Department of English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Mostar, in collaboration with the Society for the Study of English in Bosnia and Herzegovina (DAuBiH) hereby extends a call for papers for the first DAuBiH Symposium which will take place at the University of Mostar on April 6 and 7, 2018. English – or rather the many Englishes of speakers with complex linguistic, regional, national, cultural and professional backgrounds — has been gaining global importance. Thus, English does not belong to English speakers only; it expresses the voices of people all over the world. As a specific social and cultural environment, Bosnia and Herzegovina is marked by multilingualism, intercultural contacts and cross-border movements which are highly dominated by English. How the role of English changes from the BH perspective; how different courses and disciplines within English studies are taught and what is to be offered in the future, including the introduction of necessary innovations to address new challenging situations, are just some of the questions our symposium seeks to explore. Keynote speakers: Gretchen Eick, PhD, Friends University, Wichita, Kansas, USA Ilka Mindt, PhD, University of Paderborn, Paderborn, Germany We invite papers on any area of research pertaining to English studies, including phonetics and phonology, syntax, morphology, semantics, pragmatics, language change, sociolinguistics, literatures in English, EFL methodology, second language acquisition, translation studies, cultural studies, interdisciplinary approaches etc.
